Mock-up recording featuring Taryn Surratt, mezzo soprano

Poem by Taryn Surratt

"It's playing on your phone
While your professor is teaching
The class you'll spend
The next ten years paying off.

It's posting only articles
Whose headlines slander anyone
Outside of your political party
Without even reading its contents.

It's realizing that
All of your colleagues
Can wear the same shade of foundation
And refusing to question why.

It's seeing little Susie's Mom
Covered in cloth from head to toe
And not asking her why she's
Covered up the bruise on her eye.

It's belittling another's religion
And telling them they are not saved,
Conveniently forgetting that
Only God judges us on our last day."
